What is In Her Head? Well, there is memory and longing and the solace of angels in the poems by Sharon Hawkins. And there is work, like Ceely’s, to sustain through adversity, or the creations at the kiln by Cornelia Haeussler. There are dreams inspired by the palms of elders in the quiet arena of Anca Vlasopolos’s poetry, and a mortal barter made for the old in “Bless The Child Who Comes.”
In Her Head is the anguish of Kristina Olsen’s character whose credo is altered by a young woman’s need. And the secret she keeps in “Showdown at the Four Comers Corral” is dark; it binds her to another, once a teacher, now a student, in surviving the brutal hand of a man.
There is hope In Her Head for the child in “Family Portrait,” and caution of the boy “In the temple at twelve.” There is reason and humor from C. R. Ward, whose characters move between a prairie town store and a trailer outside in the district of Spoiled Milk.
What lives In Her Head is the voice we hear when reading the work upon these pages, and the vision we gain from the intimate eye with which this medium includes us. We hope you enjoy the pieces that follow as a chance to glimpse beneath the skin at that secret internal landscape of others.
