After fifty years of feminist literary leadership, Room is seeking passionate and hands-on advocates, particularly those living in British Columbia but open to all living in Canada, to join our working Board of Directors and help us keep publishing writing by and for women (cis and trans), trans people of all genders, Two-Spirit, and nonbinary people.
Our collaborative collective has published writers from historically excluded communities for five decades. Now we’re looking for creative, committed people who share our vision, can help guide the magazine’s continued growth, and want to get involved in both the day-to-day tasks and the broader overview of Room’s core operations. Tasks for a working board at Room run the gamut from administrative to technical, from creative to advisory to financial, and may take between 10-15 hours a month, so we’re seeking out impact-oriented folks ready to directly galvanize Canadian feminism.
We welcome expertise in:
- Finance and fundraising
- Legal and governance
- HR and organizational development
- Publishing and editorial work
- Marketing and outreach
- Technology and digital strategy
- Equity, diversity, and inclusion
We especially value experience fostering inclusive, anti-racist, and sustainable literary communities. Board members collaborate with our staff and collective to ensure Room thrives with integrity, care, and vision.
