Plasticnic and Plasticpoems by Fiona Tinwei Lam

Fiona Tinwei Lam

Below are short, animated poems created by Fiona Tinwei Lam in collaboration with Vancouver animators Tisha Deb Pillai and Nhat Truong. These short, plastic-pollution-themed video poems were intended to be screened at the 2020 Growing Room Literary & Arts Festival, but we are happy to show them here!

Plasticnic was co-directed with Tisha Deb Pillai, an Emily Carr University animation graduate. It is based on a shaped poem in Fiona’s poetry collection, Odes & Laments.

Plasticpoems is based on two concrete visual poems by Fiona Tinwei Lam which appears in her poetry collection Odes & Laments. The video is done in collaboration with Nhat Truong, a graduate of the Art Institute’s animation program.

You can read one of Fiona’s print poems, and continue to support and celebrate the rest of our Growing Room writers, by ordering issue 44.1 Growing Room online, and watch this space as we share more content from contributors to the Growing Room 44.1 issue all throughout the month of March.

Fiona Tinwei Lam has authored three poetry books and a children’s book and co-edited two nonfiction collections. Her poetry videos have screened at festivals internationally. Feature photo by Rebecca Blissett.

ROOM 49.1 No Future for Who?

In Room Magazine 49.1 No Future for Who?, we are really asking. We are coming in hot. We are causing a scene. We are being unreasonable. We are not fucking around. We are not taking “no” for an answer. “No” is the only word we still know. For who? For who? No.
