Fashion:

The Closet Feminist is a blog that doesn’t take fashion or personal style at face value. Instead, the blog founded by Emily Yakashiro in 2012 brings together content that examines mainstream and accessible fashion magazines with a feminist eye towards how women, race, gender, and body size are represented. With YouTube video critiques on such topics as diversity and butch style in print magazines, The Closet Feminist is a per-fect space to go beyond the pretty pages of a magazine and think about how style is portrayed in mainstream media and why. Plus it collects excellent quotes from smart celebrities speaking about what informs their personal style and how it may differ from their Hollywood alter-egos.

Food:

Fat Girl Food Squad

Fat Girl Food Squad (FGFS) is a food blog with a bite. Featuring stunning photography, unpretentious restaurant reviews, and food squad members located in various loca-tions (Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, Denver, NYC, Minneapolis and growing), FGFS is “spreading the good thick word” in a city near you. FGFS has a fun regular column called Friday Foodie Five featuring FGFS’ favou-rite foodie sights and sounds weekly. However, this blog is not afraid to get real and offer critical insights with it’s feature “Real Talk” which delves into feminist topics including a recent discussion on “Fit Shaming.” Armed with diverse content and the belief that everyone “should embrace their inner fat-girl regardless of weight, gender, race or sexuality,” founders Amanda (Ama) Scriver and Yuli Scheidt’s blog has something for everyone.

“It's Canadian, feminist, and one of my favourite things ever.”
