An empowered space for writing by women and genderqueer authors depends on support from readers like you.

We receive grants and have a strong core subscription base, but our budget is not enough to pay our writers and artists what they deserve. We believe in supporting Canadian culture through the ongoing publication of our literary magazine and because of this we ask you to join us in this support.

Room is published quarterly by the West Coast Feminist Literary Magazine Society, also known as the Growing Room Collective. Members of the collective, located in various parts of Canada, put thousands of hours in each year because they believe in a place for women writers and artists. In light of recent research from organizations like CWILA, there has never been a more critical time for the promotion and engagement of writing by women and reviews of women’s work.

Since the beginning, we have published over 2000 women writers in forty volumes. Amber Dawn, Nalo Hopkinson, Miriam Toews, Shani Mootoo, Evelyn Lau, Hiromi Goto, Marie Annharte Baker, Jane Urquhart, and Sharon Butala are just a few of the well-known writers we have included in the pages of Room, and we are also committed to discovering and supporting emerging writers. Although we are unable to offer you a tax receipt, we can promise plenty of cultural karma. And to show our appreciation, we’ll also publish donors’ names.

We know you love Room as much as we do. Please support Room directly via PayPal, using the button on this page.

On behalf of Room, thank you for your ongoing support. We are here because of readers like you.
