Bios:
Jen Sookfong Lee was born and raised in Vancouver’s East Side, and she now lives with her son in North Burnaby. Her books include The Conjoined, The Better Mother, a finalist for the City of Vancouver Book Award, The End of East, and Shelter, a novel for young adults. Her poetry, fiction and articles have appeared in a variety of magazines and anthologies, including Elle Canada, Hazlitt, Room, and Event. A popular CBC Radio One personality, Jen appears regularly as a contributor on The Next Chapter and is a frequent co-host of the Studio One Book Club. Jen teaches writing at The Writers’ Studio Online with Simon Fraser University.
Chantal Gibson in an artist-educator living in Vancouver. Her written and visual works, academic and creative, engage a process of Historical In(ter)vention, exploring themes of gender and race in the cultural (re)production of knowledge. She teaches in the School of Interactive Arts & Technology at Simon Fraser University.
SheLa Nefertiti Morrison has been published in various genres, in publications as diverse as Reader’s Digest, Aesthetica, On Spec: Canada’s Magazine of the Fantastic – and Room! She is “beginning again” after a long spell of shock and loss and appreciates literary groups: Poetic Justice, Poetry In The Park, Poetry Wars, and especially Surrey Muse for resuscitating her.
Beni Xiao is a student and writer based in Vancouver. They are usually a poet, but occasionally a graphic forms and visual artist. Their work has not appeared in much because they are a small baby writer. They are willing to make out with anyone who comes out to their events, and that includes you.
Nicole Breit is the winner of Room’s 2016 CNF contest for “An Atmospheric Pressure”, a mixed-time lapse essay about first love and loss. Her essays and poems have been published, or are forthcoming in, carte blanche, Hippocampus and Event magazine.
Samantha deVries-Hofman is an artist, graphic designer, and illustrator, born in Mississauga Ontario, but who has spent her adult life in Vancouver. After graduating from Emily Carr University of Art and design, she focused primarily on design and illustration.
