Room’s Literary Guide to VIFF 2016

With the 35th Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) only ten days away, Room Magazine is handpicking the best literary-inspired films to add to your must-see VIFF list this season. Deep Salt Water: Month Two

Welcome to Month Two of Deep Salt Water. Room is pleased to feature this captivating and thought-provoking project, an interdisciplinary collaboration among four artists—author Marianne Apostolides, collage artist Catherine Mellinger, photographer Melanie Gordon, and composer Paul Swoger-Ruston—based on Apostolides’ forthcoming book Deep Salt Water.

Interview with Room's 2015 Cover Art Contest Winner: Tiffany Mallery

Our Annual Cover Art Contest has officially opened again! We took the opportunity and spoke to our first ever winner, Tiffany Mallery, whose winning piece was published recently on the cover our last issue—Room 39.2, Between Shadows. She told us about her life after art school and books that inspire her work. Aside from Room, she has also been published in American Illustration, and Uppercase magazine.

CanLit Shout Outs: September 2016

Welcome to CanLit Shout Outs, Room's new monthly blog series. On the first Sunday of every month, I will post a list of recent publications, awards, and other literary accomplishments by past and present Room contributors, board members, contest judges, interviewees, and friends. The First Room Rooftop Reading: A Fortieth Anniversary Anthology Celebration

On Friday August 19, Room celebrated several exciting new ventures including a reading to announce our forthcoming fortieth anniversary anthology (to be published March 2017 and launched at the first ever Growing Room: A Feminist Literary Festival in Vancouver). The rooftop was stellar, the readings were amazing, and the ambiance was one of a kind. As the sun began to set, the warm air carried these beauiful voices across the roof and over the city. This was a spectacular evening.
