Kaiya Jacob is a soon-to-be published scholar and emerging doula born and raised on unceded Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories. As a queer woman and settler of mixed Afro-Trinidadian and white European descent, anti-oppression is central to her values and her work. Kaiya is set to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Gender, Sexuality, Women’s Studies at Simon Fraser University. Here, she focuses on the role of communications in community building and advocacy specifically for Black, racialized, and queer communities. In her spare time, Kaiya has been self-teaching traditional crafts such as embroidery, knitting, and sewing.
