Room is Hiring a Marketing and Contest Coordinator!

Room magazine is looking for a new marketing & contest coordinator to join the team. The marketing and contest coordinator is responsible for organizing our yearly poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, short forms, and cover art contests, which includes securing judges and coordinating with our volunteer readers. The hired candidate will also be responsible for promoting all of Room’s projects and events, managing Room’s social media accounts with regular and engaging posts, and for coordinating ad exchanges and purchases with other magazines and organizations. We are looking for someone who is a great communicator and who shares Room’s intersectional feminism and anti-oppressive values. We particularly encourage folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of colour to apply.
 

Responsibilities include:
 

  • Recruiting judge(s) and readers for our contests

  • Coordinate the yearly contests and strategize print and digital marketing opportunities 

  • Screening and coordinating contest submissions with our readers and judges

  • Uploading contest-related content to the website and ensuring the website is updated when necessary

  • Managing Room’s Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook accounts (additional platforms are optional)

  • Promote the publication of Room’s quarterly issues, our calls for submissions, our writing and art contests, our local and virtual events, our exclusive online content, special projects, and more.

  • Coordinating print and digital advertising and cross promotions with other magazines and organizations

  • Keeping the contest reading manual up to date

  • Attending monthly staff meetings and annual AGMs
     

Useful skills and qualifications for the role:
 

  • A passion for and knowledge of Canada’s publishing scene and a commitment to Room’s intersectional feminism and anti-oppressive values

  • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines

  • Strong time and workload management

  • Experience working with Excel, Submittable, MailChimp, Hootsuite, Drupal, PhotoShop and major social media platforms
     

This position allows you to work remotely, and applicants do not need to be Vancouver based.

Pay Rate: $18/hr. The Marketing Coordinator will be paid twice a month through Room’s payroll.

Hours: Part-time, 15 hours/week
