About The Readers

Jagtar Kaur Atwal was born in England and moved to Canada nine years ago and has been living in Cambridge, Ontario for the last five years, and is proud to say “Finding A Way Out” is her first publication.

Martha Batiz was born and raised in Mexico City, but has been living in Canada since 2003. She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, where she teaches Creative Writing in Spanish. She is also a sessional professor at Glendon College. Martha's award-winning novella, The Wolf's Mouth, was published by Exile Editions in 2009. Her short-story collection, De Transito, published in Puerto Rico in 2014, was among the winners of the International Latino Book Award in 2015.

Leonarda Carranza is a Salvadorian born writer and poet. In her work, she explores issues of belonging and loss, and the affective qualities of oppression. She is a member of the Pages on Fire Collective, with whom she facilitates creative writing workshops and organizes public events and readings.

Apanaki Temitayo Minerve was born in Toronto and raised in Trinidad and Tobago; she is an author, spoken word poet, actor, multimedia artist and teacher. Her canvas compositions are an expression of her Trinidadian heritage and spirituality.

Jael Richardson is the author of The Stone Thrower: A Daughter’s Lesson, a Father’s Life, a memoir based on her relationship with her father, legendary quarterback Chuck Ealey. Richardson lives in Brampton, Ontario where she serves as the Artistic Director for the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD).

Jia Qing Wilson-Yang is a writer and occasional musician living in Toronto, Ontario. She's a mixed-race trans-woman working on an upcoming novel with metonymy press (

Entrance is by donation (recommended $5, includes one back issue), but no one will be turned away.
